Whole bird seen, small heron bluish-green body, rusty throat
BEHAVIOR OF THE BIRD(s)
Perching in willow spooked and flushed from bushes 6 meters ahead, agitated
HOW AND WHEN DID YOU POSITIVELY IDENTIFY THE BIRD, AND WHAT CLINCHED THE IDENTIFICATION FOR YOU?
Immediately, long neck, trailing feet dark primaries, long bill. Perched in willow with neck tucked in, bluish-green body with distinct rusty throat.
HOW DID YOU ELIMINATE SIMILAR SPECIES? WHAT WERE THEY?
Rufus throat with no heavy streaking or prominent white on throat or body distinguished it from least bitten
